For those who have waited for an?explanation?of the significance of the ?houses? in astrology, here is a quick intro that will get you started on the next step of deciphering your natal chart.
You can also look at the houses in any chart (such as a wedding chart), or between two charts, such as in astrology, but to start out it?s best to just look at the placement of your own planets.
If you are new to my astrology posts start here with?finding?out about your rising sign and moon sign.
The natal chart (or any astrological chart) is divided into 12 parts based on the position of the sun at the time of day of the chart. This is why the more exact the TIME (down to minute when possible) of the natal chart or other chart is so important. These 12 parts are called the houses and are numbered 1 through 12 in order starting from the line of the point where the sun was (the Ascendant) and the numbers increase counterclockwise around the wheel. Each of these houses has a different meaning which influences the expression of the planets in them. Not all of the houses will have planets or astrological points of interest in them, and that can be?meaningful, also. This explanation will not be in-depth but just an overview to get you started in looking at your own chart. Or, let me do a personalized?reading?for you.
The first line is the Ascendant, and the corresponding sign is the Rising Sign. So if your ascendant line (the line where the sun was when you were born) is in the sign of Cancer, for example, then you are a Cancer Rising. The first house rules self, identity, life and purpose. The planets in our first house become a greater part of who we are and how we identify ourselves, more than any other parts of our personality. They also become a more significant part of our life. This is multiplied greatly if the planets are very close to the ascendant line. This is called having a?planet??on the ascendant?.
?The second house of your natal chart corresponds to your personal possessions in life: finances, money, abundance, wealth, your house and car and other possessions.
?The third house corresponds to the local neighborhood/community/area that you live in, your siblings, neighbors, and also your experience with primary education (elementary and high school) and your personal relationship to writing, reading and communication.
The fourth corresponds to your childhood, especially your relationship with your mother, and also your home life, and the end of your life.
?The fifth house corresponds to love affairs and romance? not the commitment part in committed relationships, just the romance part. This house is also corresponds to children and young people? your own children and/or those you work with or interact with? and also the arts and entertainment and?anything?you do for fun and recreation.
Your work, not your vocation? the sixth house corresponds to things like jobs in which you are an employee, chores, the minutiae of everyday life, the?things?you are obligated to do? and also, any service and charity to others. If you are an employer the sixth house corresponds to your experience and relationships with your employees.
Partnerships? both in business and in love. Whether it?s marriage or a civil union or a business partnership, any union which is sealed with the commitment of a contract, whether written, verbal or implied, is ruled by the seventh house. The seventh house also contains the Descendant line (DC), the other side of the Ascendant? which corresponds to what you look for to complete your life? what you value in others and?especially?in a partner and what you are attracted to. So for instance, if you are a Pisces Rising, your DC is in Virgo, the sign opposite to Pisces, and you are attracted to Virgo qualities and Virgo things and people.
?The eighth house rules threshold experiences (like death and sex) and ego issues, and legacies. It pertains to what you leave behind after you go (your legacy) and your relationship to eternal truths and things greater than yourself.
?The ninth house rules secondary education, foreign travel, religion and philosophy, and the search for truth.
?The tenth house pertains to your vocation, or ?calling? in life, your reputation or public image and your place in society. The first and tenth houses are all that other people who don?t know you will see of you. Planets in the tenth house are considered extra-important in guiding your life path and so they carry extra clout.
?Your eleventh house shows your friendships and social circles and social organizations, and even work unions or guilds you may belong to. It is also the house of hopes and wishes and will show any idealism or social activism.
?The?twelfth?house is the house of lost?planets. It is often called the house of self-undoing, and it shows addictions, terms of imprisonment and secrets or lies that we keep from?ourselves?OR that others keep from us. However, it also shows potential for spiritual transformation. The?twelfth?house shows where we are vulnerable to being taken advantage of? by?ourselves?or others? where we are vulnerable to self-destruction? and what parts of our personality require extra love and attention from our selves. The qualities shown in the?twelfth?house are often aspects of ourselves we are not aware of (secrets we keep from ourselves) so exploring one?s twelfth house can be very enlightening.
